Akala

Akala (Kingslee James Daley), born 31 December 1983, is a English rap and hip hop artist from the Kentish Town / Queen’s Crescent area of Camden, north west London. He is the younger brother of the singer Ms. Dynamite.

Akala touches on race, class, sexism, history, war, hip-hop culture and what it is to live in a world one knows to be inherently unequal, yet rounds it all off not with accusations or anger but inward self-analysis.

“My mum’s a white Scottish woman and my dad’s a black Jamaican, so for my life not to be about bringing people together would almost be a contradiction in terms,” he says. “I want to reach everybody but do it truthfully and honestly. That’s got to be your ultimate aim as an artist – that’s what the best artists do. I’m not saying I’m there yet, but that’s what I aspire to.”

    Bio .

Dezyne (David Ojunga) was born and raised in Kenya, a nation in East Africa. At the age of twelve he moved to the United States with his siblings and his widowed mother in pursuit of education and a better life. Two years later, he started writing poetry and rap songs as an escape from the sad realities of life. He couldn’t afford the costs for extra-curricular activities at school so he bought a cheap microphone and hooked it up to an old computer and started a home studio with his brother, Diplomatiq’. His lyrics at the time were superficial and far from real. As time passed, his skills developed and soon enough he realized that he needed to get his own voice.

Dezyne started reading books and formulating rhymes out of the stories he found captivating. In this process he learnt more than the educational system could have ever provided him. It dawned on him that the best thing for him to do is to pass his acquired knowledge through hip-hop. Since then Dezyne has been progressing towards his ultimate goal which is to entertain and enlighten the whole planet with his music filled with sharp lyricism. He is a member of the Black Chamber Movement, whose goal is to elevate the state of world and fight for justice. Dezyne’s music is a mixture of politics, history, and his deepest thoughts on topics that plague society. His music is also entertaining and captures hip-hop at its best. Some say, this is what the game’s missing while others find some of his lyrics too controversial to listen. The bottom line is that DEZYNE is here to stay
